Sad News… On Tuesday May 5th I received a phone call from Jim Unger of Jim Unger’s Gymnastics School. Jim wanted to let me know of his decision to close his gym at the end of May after 35 years of teaching gymnastics to the children in the Lincoln area. As you probably already know, Jim Unger was involved in a terrible bicycle accident in August of 2012 in which he suffered a serious spinal cord injury. It is Jims goal to one day be able to walk again and return to teaching the sport that he has dedicated so much of his life to.
I have known Mr. Unger since my earliest days of coaching in Lincoln dating back to the mid 80’s. I have always considered him to be both a friend and a role model. Jim has been a positive influence on thousands of children whom he has worked with over the year. I pray that by Gods grace and Jim’s determination he will achieve his goal and once again not only walk but also continue his legacy as a gymnastics teacher in Lincoln.
I know that all of Jim’s students are also saddened by this news and will soon be looking for a new gymnastics home. I would hope that you would consider Pioneer Gymnastics Academy. Pioneer Gymnastics Academy would like to offer Jim Ungers students a free trial class. Pioneer Gymnastics Academy will donate $50.00 to the Jim Unger Recovery Fund (Union Bank) for each of his students that registers for class. I would also encourage any of Jim Unger’s former students to consider donating to his recovery fund. Donations to the Jim Unger fund can be made at any Union Bank or by writing a check to “Jim Unger Recovery Fund” and dropping it off at Pioneer Gymnastics Academy. You can find out more information about Jim on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jim-Ungers-Gymnastics-School/122600911122050
